Three minutes after going down a man, Wigan Athletic has equalized at the DW. An 81st minute own goal from Sebastien Squillaci ends a perfectly executed corner kick from the Latics, leaving the two sides tied at two.
Wigan Vs. Arsenal: 10-Man Latics Equalize Through Corner Kick, Sebastien Squillaci Own Goal
Ben Watson took the kick from the left of goal, curling his ball two yards beyond the far post, dropping about one yard from the line. Hugo Rodallega, double marked, won the ball, heading it back across goal for what would have been an easy finish for Gary Caldwell. Desperately, having been beaten to the spot, Squillaci curled himself around Caldwell, but the angle left him no chance to make a viable play on the ball. Rodallega's header went off Squillaci and into the next, equalizing with just under 10 minutes left.
Now in second half stoppage time, the score remains 2-2, a final which will cost Arsenal a chance to move even with Manchester United and Manchester City. Should they miss out on three, the result could hardly be called harsh. Wigan was the better team early, and even before losing Charles N'Zogbia, the Latics were pushing for an equalizer.
