Due to freezing weather, Saturday’s English Premier League fixture between Blackpool and Manchester United has been postponed. Blackpool F.C.‘s staff had attempted to get the pitch ready for play, but they were unsuccessful. Bloomfield Road, Blackpool’s ground, does not have under soil heating.
Blackpool Vs. Manchester United Called Off Due To Inclement Weather
A statement on the club’s website reads as follows:
"Following ongoing discussions between the Premier League, match officials and Manchester United it was agreed match referee Peter Walton would inspect the Bloomfield Road playing surface on Friday afternoon.
"After consulting with the groundsman and club officials the Northants-based official travelled to the Fylde Coast and inspected the playing area at the stadium.
"Mr Walton expressed concern that the severely affected areas of the playing surface would not thaw sufficiently for the game to be completed."
At this time, a date for the match to be played has not been set. The inclement weather has also caused a number of other matches across the lower leagues of England and Scotland, as well as every match in the Scottish Premier League, to be cancelled. All other matches taking place this weekend in the English Premier League appear to be on at the moment. Thanks, under soil heating!
Can the Premier League please cut Blackpool a nice check for a pitch upgrade if they manage to stay up this season? Tangerines and neutral fans alike would appreciate it very much.
