Dwayne De Rosario is back training with Celtic, but it's not entirely clear whether the team has worked out a formal agreement four days after it was first learned the Toronto FC captain had gone to Scotland without notifying his contract holders. Celtic, a team that is usually up front about its movements, has suddenly stopped speaking about the situation. Toronto FC has also declined to comment on the particulars of the situation.
Dwayne De Rosario Training With Celtic, Again
Since a photograph of him training alongside recently signed Freddie Ljungberg surfaced on Tuesday, De Rosario has been embroiled in a controversy of competing memories. De Rosario has been claiming he had received permission from TFC, while the league and TFC front office have disputed that account.
In the meantime, De Rosario has done his reputation no favors back home. He’s been quoted as comparing his hometown of Scarborough, Ontario to South Central Los Angeles. Some TFC supporters are even calling for the relationship to be severed between De Rosario and his hometown team.
None of this seems to be lining up well if Celtic decides it doesn’t want or can’t afford De Rosario’s services. Celtic is thin in the midfield after a rash of injuries, but they’ve also just signed Ljungberg. De Rosario, who’s always primarily been an attacking player, could be seen as an unnecessary luxury. If he’s forced to return to MLS, it would almost certainly have to be in another uniform.
