Didier Drogba scores a penalty through a play defined by which team one supports (but isn't it always that way when the referee points to the spot?)
Chelsea Vs. Everton: Didier Drogba Gives Chelsea The Lead Through Penalty Conversion
Nicolas Anelka took the ball through to the corner of the penalty spot, where Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard rushed out to meet him. Howard planted himself directly in front of Anelka, coming off like an American football player when Anelka went down at his feet. Toffees supporters argue that Anelka could have easily gone around the keeper, but instead chose to draw the penalty--and to be fair, the Frenchman could have twisted the other way. Howard was shown a yellow card for the foul, but was not shown a red because the referee believed there was another defender covering, sending the home supporters into fits of rage.
Whichever side of the line you fall on, it certainly doesn’t change the result. Didier Drogba stepped up to the spot and sent a hard drive into the top left corner of the goal, leaving Tim Howard with nothing to do but stretch his fingers toward the ball.
