The only match we haven’t been keeping you updated on is Blackburn-Wolverhampton. There, Blackburn is playing their part of Premier League litmus test. If you can beat Blackburn, you’re probably a decent side. If not, get ready for a relegation battle. Not that was needed to know that about Wolves.
English Premier League Saturday, Halftime Update: Chelsea Looking To Go Top
Mick McCarthy side has given up goals to David Dunn and Brett Emerton. Both Blackburn goals have displayed their main virtue: physical strength. The first came on a corner conversion, with Ryan Nelson heading down to Dunn for the 29th minute goal. Then two minutes before half, Jason Roberts outmuscled Wolves defenders to create a chance for Emerton, who sent Blackburn to half up 2-0.
Elsewhere, Chelsea’s looking to go back top, using a Didier Drogba goal from the spot to take a 1-0 lead over Everton. The chance came after Tim Howard had come out to challenge Nicolas Anelka, eventually colliding with the Chelsea attacker as the ball was put beyond him. It was an obligatory call, giving Chelsea a deserved lead.
Arsenal, looking to keep up, is stumbling at the Emirates. After dominating the first half hour, including a goal from Samir Nasri, Arsenal’s defense has started coughing up chances, with a late Lauksz Fabianski save on Diomansy Kamara preventing the Senegalese from converting a first half brace. The striker’s goal at the 30 minute mark leaves the match drawn at one.
The two other in-action title contenders took 1-0 leads to half. Manchester City go an early goal from Carlos Tévez, controlling the rest of the half to send Bolton to half down one at Eastlands. At St. Andrews’s, Sebastian Bassong, starting for the injured Younes Kaboul, has Spurs up over Birmingham City.
And as we talk you earlier, Wigan and Stoke are in the middle of a cracker at the DW, tied 2-2 at half.
