The rising star of Samir Nasri has been documented since the attacker’s move from Marseille to London, but today starts the Frenchman’s move toward the upper tier of world talents. At least, that’s the take-away from what we just saw at the Emirates, where Nasri’s second goal - both beautiful displays of skill - has given Arsenal a 2-1, 76th minute lead in a match that seemed destined for a draw.
Arsenal Vs. Fulham: Superstar Is Born As Samir Nasri Puts Gunners In Front
That was the feeling when watching the affairs at the Emirates, where Arsenal had failed to regain their early match swagger after Diomansy Kamara’s 30th minutes goal. The Gunners had seen chances but none as good as Kamara’s late first half chance, snuffed out by Fabianski.
That’s what makes Nasri’s second so remarkable: the timing. It’s not that Nasri’s having a great match. It’s the circumstances of it. With Cesc Fabregas out, Nasri has slid into the spotlight and is about to lead Arsenal to three points you could see them missing out on.
Those points, if they’re snagged, would be thanks to Nasri’s second goal, which came at the end of a movement he stared. A lopping ball coming out of Fulham’s end was collected by Nasri near the middle of the field. Nasri eased into Fulham’s half, surveyed his options, then played a ball 10 yards forward to Andrei Arshavin, coming in from the right. Arshavin rolled a ball forward to Robin van Persie who, cutting across the box, laid off to an oncoming Nasri.
Reminiscent of his first half goal, Nasri weaved through two defenders, poked the ball away from an oncoming Mark Schwarzer, taking him to the far lef tof goal. Then, from that tight angle, Nasri twisted on his left foot and got a right footed shot into goal. From four yards out, the shot eluded defenders scurrying back to defend the line, giving Arsenal a 2-1 lead.
