Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark, who has become Aston Villa midfielder Ciaran Clark thanks to the club’s injury problems, will miss Saturday’s match against West Bromwich Albion. Clark picked up a yellow card in the 38th minute of Villa’s Monday match at Anfield, earning him a one game suspension.
Liverpool Vs. Aston Villa: Ciaran Clark Yellow Earns Suspension
The yellow card was Clark’s fifth of the season, accumulated in only nine matches. Per English Premier League rules, Clark will now serve a one match suspension for yellow card accumulation, forcing him to sit out this weekend’s derby.
The card came as Clark’s extended right foot cause Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, both players contesting a ball in midfield. Clark mistimes his challenge slightly and caught Leiva’s right foot after the ball had left, sending the Brazilian to ground.
Now in the 44th minute, the match remains 2-0 Liverpool, with Villa still failing to provide a meaningful response to goals from David N’Gog and Ryan Babel. Without the suspended Ashley Young, Villa has put together possibly their worst half of the season.
