Fulham has found a late equalizer at the DW just as Wigan seemed set to jump from 19th to 14th. Instead, Andrew Johnson has pulled the Cottagers even, Ali Al Habsi unable to stop the Fulham substitutes 12-yard blast, leaving the score 1-1 going into the match's closing moments.
Wigan Vs. Fulham: Andrew Johnson Blasts Equalizer Through Ali Al Habsi
The opportunity was created by Clint Dempsey, who had a goal controversially denied earlier in the half. The Fulham attacker cut in from the right wing with the ball, chipping a pass back to his right as he drew right back and left center half to him. Johnson trapped the ball, took another touch to set up his change, then let go of a shot from the right of goal.
The attempt may have deflected off a lunging Gary Caldwell, coming from his right center half spot to try and block the shot. Regardless, Al Habsi had the shot hit him in the hands, his arms outstretched high and to his right. The resulting deflection looped back and to this right, eventually falling into the Wigan net, tying the score.
Now in the second of four minutes of stoppage time, Wigan and Fulham appeared destined to share points.
