For all the talk of Inter Milan's "revitalization", against Cesena, the hosts looked much more like the team from 2010 than the team seen since Leonardo took over. Back to back goals from Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito gave Inter the lead by the 15th minute, but shaky defending allowed Cesena back in the game. Erjon Bogdani pulled one back for the Seahorses in the 23rd minute before Emanuele Giaccherini grabbed the equalizer in the 29th.
Inter Milan Scrape Win Over Cesena Through Cristian Chivu’s Head
Fortunately for Inter and their scudetto race, the "new head" of Cristian Chivu put Inter back in front shortly before the halftime whistle. The Romanian, who fractured his scull last season against Chievo Verona, has been wearing a scrumcap since returning to the pitch. His header, off a Maicon cross, was the first he'd scored since the incident.
With no goals in the second half, the 3-2 scoreline stood, much to the relief of Inter. The win puts the Nerazzurri in fourth place, just six goals behind A.C. Milan with a game in hand.
