Newcastle central defender Fabricio Coloccini has scored a fantastic goal with his right foot from open play, marking only his second ever goal in the English Premier League. It was a fantastic goal, resembling something done by a true No. 9.
Newcastle Vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Fabricio Coloccini Opens The Scoring
The defender made a run into the left side of the box while the ball was wide right. Danny Guthrie hit a floating cross to Coloccini, who controlled it incredibly well with his chest. He let the ball bounce off the ground once before hitting a great strike on the half volley, past Carlo Cudicini at his far post. The Tottenham keeper probably should have done a little better with Coloccini’s effort, as the ball made contact with his hand without him moving, but nothing should be taken away from the goal scorer. His first touch and strike were top notch, especially for a central defender.
Spurs have had the better of the chances before the goal, with Aaron Lennon looking dangerous. However, Steven Pienaar has been particularly wasteful on his debut.
Coincidentally, today is Coloccini’s 29th birthday. So, happy birthday!
