After dropping two points very late last week in Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich responded with a 5-1 victory over Kaiserslautern at the Allianz Arena. Mario Gómez scored a second-half hat-trick after Arjen Robben had opened the scoring with his first goal since June on the stroke of halftime. ‘Lautern had a chance to get back into the game when Jan Morávek made it 2-1 on sixty-two minutes, but the Bavarians weathered the brief storm and Thomas Müller added a fifth in stoppage time after Gómez’s hat-trick. Bayern are up to third place, while ‘Lautern have dropped to thirteenth.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund moved a point further ahead at the top with a draw at home to struggling Stuttgart. BVB had taken the lead in the first half through Mario Götze, but failed to put the game away (although they should have had a penalty midway through the second half when Götze was bodychecked in the penalty area), and Pavel Pogrbenyak popped up to score a vital equalizer for the visitors six minutes from time.
Schalke rebounded from their home defeat to Hamburg with a tight 1-0 victory in Hannover; Raúl scored the only goal of the game. Wolfsburg prevented Mainz 05 from claiming their first draw of the season as Simon Kjaer headed in a late winner, and a Freiburg side without Papiss Cissé were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Nürnberg.
