Neither Paul Robinson nor Boaz Myhill had faced particularly stern tests in first half of the Blackurn-West Bromwich Albion game, and they've both been equal to whatever the other team has been able to throw at them. Robinson beat away a vicious volley by Odemwingie inside the first minute - Albion's only moment of real threat - and Myhill was forced into two sprawling saves from long range attempts in quick succession as Blackburn put together their first sustained attack of the game. However, Myhill wasn't prepared to deal with the threat posed by his own players, and was helpless to prevent Gabriel Tamas nodding into his own net from a cross under severe pressure by Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz.
Blackburn Rovers vs. West Bromwich Albion: Gabriel Tamas Opens Scoring - For Blackburn
For the first 25 minutes, both teams had been content to play the ball around the area and throw in lackadaisical crosses whenever they got bored of passing, with the exception of West Brom midfielder Paul Scharner, who’s mainly found his amusement in making ridiculous tackles right in front of the referee (a scissor challenge on Roque Santa Cruz was the most egregious) and somehow avoiding any sort of punishment. Fortunately for the viewers, the game’s opened up since, with several decent chances for both teams and now an opening goal.
