La Liga Round 20: Halftime, Early Sunday Fixtures, Getafe Lead, Atletico Madrid Struggling

It’s halftime across all four of La Liga’s early Sunday fixtures, and the only real eye-popping scoreline is the one of Almeria and Osasuna, where the hosts lead 2-0. Based on the style of football the two teams play and their results this season, something like a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 win for either side would have been a more expected result. When these teams met in the opening match of the season, a 0-0 draw is exactly what they played to.

Today, Almeria jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes before Osasuna pulled back a goal in the 24th. Carlos Garcia and Ulloa scored for Almeria, while Aranda scored for Osasuna. Since the third goal, it’s become a very chippy match.

Atletico Madrid are struggling to create anything against Sporting Gijon, and they’re not doing well at keeping the ball either. This is surprising to precisely no one that has watched them this season. Also not surprising: Sporting Gijon has no one who looks really dangerous.

Real Zaragoza have started off their quest to climb out of the drop zone well, as they’re 1-0 up on Deportivo La Coruña, who somehow sit in 13th place. Said Boutahar scored the goal on a direct kick, and the goal was his first career goal in La Liga.

The best viewing can be found in the match between Getafe and Espanyol, who are very evenly matched. The difference between the two sides is a spectacular individual effort by Miku, who beat three defenders before scoring the only goal of the match so far. Espanyol have done enough to create a goal themselves, though. The ball just hasn’t hit the back of the net for them yet. Currently, the visitors have a well deserved 61% of the possession, as they are keeping the ball extremely well.
