Even including those early season, lopsided results at Stamford Bridge, tonight's performance from Chelsea may be their most impressive of the season. Perhaps they've lacked some of the "Wow, this team looks good" quality of those early results, but with Ramires putting Chelsea up 4-0 in the 74th minute, the scoreline is as convincing as any they've posted this campaign. And there are still 16 minutes to pile on.
Bolton Wanderers Vs. Chelsea: Ramires’ First English Premier League Goal Puts Chelsea Up 4-0
The defending champions' fourth goal was a bit chaotic, a cross from the left flank finding Nicolas Anelka in the middle of the area, 14 yards out. The Chelsea attacker blasted a shot into Paul Robinson, who crumbled in the box after being hit flush. The ensuing rebound came out to Ramires who, standing just inside the box, opened his right foot onto a shot that went into the left side of Jussi Jaaskelainen's net.
The goal was the first of Ramires's Premier League career. The 23-year-old Brazilian, having moved from Benfica in the summer, has been in the spotlight this season as Chelsea has tried to augment injuries and suspension to Michael Essien and Frank Lampard. Whil Jasskelainen's reaction to Anelka' initial shot gave Ramires an easy opportunity, the goal should still serve as a confidence boost for the young midfielder.
