Despite a nervy opening by Blackpool, the home side had been getting a little more involved in things in their clash against Manchester United, and now they've stunned their illustrious guests with a goal. Edwin van der Saar had already been called into action in dealing with a low cross rifled across his box (set up by a lovely Luke Varney flick) before Charlie Adam swung in a corner for Craig Cathcart - a United old boy - to hammer a header home at the far post, with the goalkeeper absolutely stranded. United's defence and midfield haven't looked entirely convincing, and the centreback pairing of Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling didn't exactly cover themselves in glory covering the corner kick.

Patrice Evra's absence may have had a key role in the goal. The left-back had been bloodied in an accidental clash with Adam, and Wayne Rooney dropped back to play in the defence while Evra received treatment. It was Rooney who gave away the corner that led to Blackpool's goal.
Blackpool have their tails up now, and United are desperate for a goal too, so the game is becoming more and more open with close chances from both sides. The visitors somehow failed to score when Dimitar Berbatov rose above the crowd only to head the ball straight into a crowd of players, and United's defence had to be sharp to stop the Tangerines doubling their advantage as they wove intricate passing moves through van der Saar's box.
