It's a raucous crowd at Bloomfield Road as home side Blackpool are up 2-0 over undefeated Manchester United with the second half underway. They almost got even louder straight away, as the Tangerines very nearly went three goals up within 15 seconds of the restart. Ryan Giggs came on for United at halftime, and the visitors' left side looks immensely disorganised so far. Patrice Evra wandered out of position and allowed Luke Varney to blitz in on the left, and once again Edwin van der Saar sprang to United's rescue to keep the match within reach, with a little help from right back Rafael.
Blackpool FC Vs. Manchester United: Luke Varney Denied Penalty
Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer treatment seems to have at least inspired United going forward, though, as it took a crucial block and a lot of luck to keep the visiting team off the scoresheet - first Nani completely missed a bobbling ball with the goal at his mercy before Wayne Rooney had a shot block and Nani did much better to draw a fine save out of Richard Kingson. They're not looking great at the other end despite the mild attacking rennaisance - Blackpool were just inexplicably denied a clear penalty as Rafael ran straight through Luke Varney in the penalty box after a great pass from Charlie Adam.
Meanwhile, Kingson is down in front of the Blackpool goal with what looks like a left knee problem. The turf in front of the goal isn’t exactly in the best condition, and it looks like Kingson caught his studs in the ground as he made a stop from a tame long-range effort. Although the substitute goalkeeper is warming up, it looks as though Kingson will play on.
