Arsenal Vs. Ipswich Town, Carling Cup Semifinal Review: Gunners One Step Away From Ending Six Year Drought
The Gunners had to wait over an hour before breaking through, Ipswich intent on preserving the 1-0 lead they earned at Portman Road. Then a ball swung wide by Fabregas to Bendtner led to the Dane opening the scoring in the 61st minute with a 16-yard shot the curled inside Martón Fulöp’s far post. When Laurent Koscielny converted a corner kick three minutes later, Arsenal had their first lead of the tie.
In the 77th minute, Fabregas put away the final goal, sealing Arsenal’s 3-0 victory, sending them through to Wembley. The February 27 final will give Arsenal a chance to earn their first piece of silverware since lifting the FA Cup in 2005, one year after Arsenal last won the Premier League.
They will take on either West Ham United or Birmingham City. The clubs meet tomorrow at St. Andrews', West Ham carrying a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their semifinal.
