After playing mostly error-free football for 50 minutes, the questionable defense of Deportivo Quito has finally cracked and allowed Independiente to score. Matias Defederico is the man who scored the goal, but it wouldn’t have happened without some help from the central defenders of Deportivo Quito...and the linesman.
Independiente Vs. Deportivo Quito: Hosts Take Lead On Defensive Error
When Nestor Silvera was played a through ball down the left hand side of the pitch, it appeared that he was very marginally offsides. The linesman didn’t see it that way, and play was allowed to continue with Silvera running on to a through ball and hitting a low cross into the center of the box. The Deportivo Quito defense appeared to have an easy clearance, but made a mess of their easy task. One of their defenders completely mis-controlled the ball, laying it right into Defederico’s wheelhouse, and he put it into the back of the net with a great precise finish.
Independiente have scored the goal they strongly desired, but they won’t feel that their work is done. They’ll need to take a multi-goal lead to Quito to truly feel comfortable.
