GK David Bingham Bound For San Jose Earthquakes Via Weighted Lottery

David Bingham, who grew up about 30 miles north of San Jose, will join the team he grew up rooting for. The Cal goalkeeper went to the San Jose Earthquakes in a weighted lottery. The Earthquakes had a 8.8 percent chance (fifth best) of winning his rights. The 21-year-old recently signed a Generation Adidas contract, the 11th player to join this year's class.

Bingham had previously expressed his interest in joining a West Coast team, specifically the Quakes, as he still has a year left in school and wants to graduate. He joins presumed starter Jon Busch and recent draftee Philip Tuttle in competing for minutes.

Prior to the draft, Bingham had been considered a top goalkeeping talent, roughly on par with eventually No. 5 overall pick Zac MacMath. In his final year at Cal, Bingham posted a .77 goals against average and started all 20 games. He also saved more than 88 percent of the shots he faced and registered eight clean sheets.
