The first twenty minutes at the BayArena have been very tight with few chances for each side, but Arturo Vidal has opened the scoring with a scorching shot from the edge of the penalty area. It was the first real chance of the match, as although the home fans will be disappointed with the timing of Stefan Kießling’s runs -- he could have been clean through on two occasions but move just a second or two early, leaving him beyond the Hannover defensive line before the ball was played.
Bayer Leverkusen Vs. Hannover 96: Arturo Vidal Puts Leverkusen 1-0 Ahead
Both sides have had good shouts for penalties in the early minutes; Mohammed Abdellaoue was bundled over in the box by Sami Hyypia, and at the other end Renato Augusto was taken down by Steve Cherundolo just inside the penalty area, but both times Manuel Gräfe declined to give a spot-kick.
Leverkusen’s opener came on twenty-one minutes, as Vidal pounced on a sloppy Kießling knock-down that was almost cleared by Cherundolo and hammered a beautiful half-volley into the bottom corner. Bayer have looked the better side since scoring, and Hannover have yet to create a solid scoring chance.
