Gaizka Toquero has added a second goal for Athletic Bilbao against ten man Atletico Madrid, all but sealing the victory up for the away side. If this result holds, Bilbao will have a five point cushion on Atleti for sixth place, the final guaranteed European qualifying position.

The goal came on a nice move, with Toquero applying the easy finish off of an assist from Andoni Iraola. Incredibly, despite the fact that they are never able to control possession with 11 men, 10 man Atletico Madrid and their usually average midfield have 56% of the possession against an above average Bilbao midfield that controls the possession 11 vs. 11 when playing good teams. Obviously, possession doesn’t dictate the scoreboard, though, and Atleti’s poor finishing and defensive lapses have been the real story of the game thus far.
