Pumas de la UNAM now have a halftime lead against Monterrey, thanks to a rocket shot from Martin Bravo and some pretty poor defending. Los Rayados look sluggish and totally unable to deal with the pace and energy of the front line of Pumas. Bravo produced a good shot at the end of his run, but it’s concerning that he was able to cut through Monterrey like a hot knife through butter.
Pumas De La UNAM Vs. Monterrey: 2-1 Halftime, Martin Bravo Scores A Rocket
It was all easy for Bravo, who single-handedly ran through four Monterrey defenders en route to getting open on goal with only goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco in front of him. Jose Maria Basanta, in particular, looked poor on the goal for Monterrey. He saw Bravo coming and had plenty of time to step in front of him, but instead completely failed to provide any opposition, appearing to have cement shoes on. After hitting a rocket into the top of the net past Orozco, Bravo seemed to think the opposite of his shoes, taking them off and kissing them.
This follows a tap-in goal by Juan Carlos Cacho and a penalty kick by “Chupete” Humberto Suazo, two goals less than three minutes apart that knotted the game up at 1-1 before Bravo’s goal gave Pumas a 2-1 lead.
