Liverpool FC Set To Pay £14 Million Transfer Fee For Blackpool FC Captain Charlie Adam

In our last update regarding Charlie Adam’s move to Liverpool, we relayed that price speculation on the Scottish midfielder ranged from £8 million to £12 million. The speculation looks to be wrong, per the latest reports. The Guardian, on their Guardian Sport twitter account, has reported the fee will be £14 million:

The word on Charlie Adam to #lfc ... deal for £14m #transferdeadlineday http://t.co/6KRpTfM via @guardian #blackpoolless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

This is the highest figure speculated to date, though it’s unfair to lump this figure in with the other mere speculation. The Guardian is cagey in relaying it as “the word,” but firm enough for them to put into the world, the £14 million figure becomes the new standard.

And like many words we've read today, it passes the common sense test. Blackpool has been defiant in saying bids of £4 million and £8 million failed to meet their evaluation, but it would be difficult to label a £14 million bid as "derisory." With Adam having already handed in a transfer request, £14 million would be a remarkable profit on the £500,000 Blackpool paid to obtain Adam from Glasgow Rangers.
