Benjani has scored again for Blackburn, giving Rovers a 3-0 lead on visiting Liverpool. Finishing the work of David Hoilett, the somewhat forgotten striker finished from the edge of the six, in the middle of the area, an easy goal past Pepe Reina, who had been drawn to his right post. Virtually unmarked, Benjani had an easy finish to send Liverpool to what may be a new low point.
Blackburn Vs. Liverpool: Rovers Up Three After Benjani Completes Brace
While Liverpool has struggled all season, losing by a decisive margin at Ewood Park would further disillusioned an already disgruntled group of supporters. This weekend, Anfield Park saw a number of empty seats for the Reds’ 2-1 win over Bolton. Today, early news from Ewood had the visitors’ section only two-thirds full. That means fewer fans saw Blackburn put this match out of reach.
The play started with Martin Olsson playing a ball down the left flank for David Hoilett, who quickly turned on Martin Skrtel and started dribbling along the byline to the left of Reina's goal. Glen Johnson caught up to the play and lunged for Hoilett before the Canadian played a ball to the top of the box. As Paul Konchesky stood a yard away, Benjani one-timed the ball home, putting the Reds down three.
Liverpool has now packed in a Blackburn team intent on preserving the result. Now in the 70th minute, it’s still 3-0, Rovers.
