While pushing forward, looking for a goal and a way back into the match, they have left themselves vulnerable to the counter attack yet again. This time, it was Josep Ilicic and substitute Massimo Maccarone who combined to make the goal and punish Sampdoria.
Palermo Vs. Sampdoria: Visitors Undone By The Counter Attack Again
Surging forward with the ball on the counter attack, Ilicic had plenty of options in front of him. Sampdoria were spread thin, leaving the Slovenian with a wealth of options. He chose to slip a through ball to his right, where Maccarone was waiting. He, too, had plenty of options, but he chose to shoot. His shot was a very good one, beating Gianluca Curci low at his far post from just inside the right side of the penalty area.
With the game well in hand for Palermo, both Fabrizio Miccoli and Javier Pastore have been removed for the hosts. Regardless of what happens in the rest of the match, it’s been a very good performance for Palermo.
Elsewhere in Serie A, Brescia have pulled one back to make it 1-2 against Cesena while Bari have taken a 1-0 lead on the road against Lecce.
