Another away match, another resounding victory. A game that was originally pencilled in as a tough assignment for the reigning champions, turned into another Barcelona rout as goals from Barcelonas famous four; David Villa, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Pedro saw Pep Guardiolas side roll over a disappointingly flat Deportivo La Coruña.
Deportivo Vs Barcelona: Goals From Villa, Messi, Iniesta And Pedro Seal 0-4 Win
After an even opening quarter, a stunning through ball from Messi set David Villa free, and the ex-Valencia hitman made no mistake from close range, firing through the legs of Daniel Aranzubia. Just before Adrian spurned a great chance to put Depor infront, but as that chance went begging so did Deportivos chances of getting anything from the match.
Barcelona went into the break 0-1 up, but they soon found themselves two to the good after yet another moment of magic from Lionel Messi. ‘La Pulga’ was fouled outside the box, before picking himself up to curl an unstoppable free-kick past a motionless Aranzubia. The match then turned into a training exercise for Barca as they maintained possession with embarrassing ease, often stringing 40 or 50 passes together with Depor reduced to chasing shadows.
The match looked over as far as goals were concerned, but then up stepped Andres Iniesta and Pedro to give the scoreline a more realistic impression. Gerard Pique had produced a party trick on the edge of the Deportivo area, before laying off to Iniesta, who had enjoyed yet another superb match, with the World Cup winner cutting inside and firing in through a crowd of bodies off his left foot.
Then it was Pedros turn to get in on the act, taking advantage of another Messi assist to chip over the advancing Aranzubia. The young winger has such composure infront of goal. So a Xavi-less Barcelona proved they can turn on the style even without their midfield maestro, and without Sergio Busquets and Dani Alves while we’re at it, to heap extra pressure on Real Madrid ahead of tomorrow nights clash against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. That five point gap has opened up yet again.
