FA Cup Third Round Sunday: Chelsea Thrash Ipswich, Tottenham Hotspur Through And Manchester City Held

Well, it certainly hasn't been a boring day in the FA Cup. While Manchester United's victory over Liverpool earlier in the day wasn't a classic, there have been plenty of goals and drama in the day's other three matches to silence FA Cup critics. Chelsea put seven past woeful and manager-less Ipswich en route to defending the Cup they lifted last year - one half of a now famous double.

Two goals from Frank Lampard and Daniel Sturridge each, a goal a piece from Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka and an own goal from Ipswich's Carlos Edwards rounded out the scoring on the day. Carlo Ancelotti elected to make a few changes, starts for Patrick van Aanholt, Daniel Sturridge and Josh McEachran, in hopes a strong showing in the Cup will somehow transfer over to the league as Chelsea find themselves on their worst league run in 15 years.

While it's yet to be seen if Chelsea will now right the ship in the Premier League, they've at least advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup in grand fashion. Elsewhere, Spurs disposed of Charlton quite easily at White Hart Lane by a score of 3-0. A brace from Jermaine Defoe and a goal from Andros Townsend saw off the Addicks.

In the day's best match, Manchester City were held 2-2 away to Leicester City in a battle of old friends Roberto Mancini and Sven-Goran Eriksson. Leicester City opened the scoring in the game's first minute, a Souleymane Bamba close range strike off of a corner caught Manchester City sleeping early on. 21 minutes later, Bamba's opener was canceled out by a James Milner strike before Carlos Tevez took City into the half with a 2-1 lead when his cheeky back-heel found the back of Chris Weale's net.

Joe Hart proved he's human after all when in the 64th minute he produced the howler of his young career which allowed Leicester City to equalize through an Andy King tap in. In the last 20 minutes, both sides pressed for a winner but neither could find one in what ended up a thrilling, compelling and entertaining FA Cup tie.
