If you’ll recall there was something of a contretemps between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United over who’d end up moving into the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 games were over. West Ham won the battle, Tottenham had a bit of a sulk and then a bit of a laugh as their rivals were relegated, and everyone moved on with their lives. Or did they?
West Ham United’s Olympic Stadium Bid Collapses, Process To Begin Anew
Because this saga wasn’t fun enough the first time: The Olympic Park Legacy Company has been asked to hit the reset button on the future plans for London’s Olympic Stadium, which means West Ham United’s planned move is well and truly off.
The London Department for Culture, Media and Sport says no:
The Government and Mayor of London have decided to end the current process to dispose of the Olympic stadium, which has become bogged down in a number of legal and other challenges. The stadium will now be retained it as a public asset and the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has been asked to start a new process to secure tenants for the stadium.
In other words, we’re going to be going through the whole damn thing again, thanks to lawyers working for Tottenham and Leyton Orient. Said lawyers have made everyone’s collective month, because this was the single most stimulating news topic in all of football. All of it.
