Take a snapshot of the Major League Soccer season at almost any point and any number of players will have emerged as a serious contender for MVP. At midseason, it seemed as though it was Brek Shea's to lose. As he started to fade, players like Mauro Rosales emerged. More recently, Dwayne DeRosario has become the hot item.
That doesn't even mention the biggest names like Thierry Henry, Landon Donovan and David Beckham, all of whom are having huge seasons and will surely draw some serious interest from voters.
With just one week left in the MLS season, SBN Soccer has decided to profile all the players we consider serious contenders for the award. In our most recent tracking poll, eight different players received at least one first-place vote from the 22 editors who cast a ballot. No players received more than six first-place votes (Dwayne DeRosario) and six players received at least two votes. To call this race wide open, seems to be a significant understatement.
