Barely two minutes into the match and fans were still finding their seats or firing up their computers to watch Bolton Wanders host Chelsea when the visitors scored the first goal. A Juan Mata corner floated into the box, with Daniel Sturridge there to head past Adam Bogdan, standing in for Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal.
Bolton Wanderers Vs. Chelsea: Danny Sturridge Gives Visitors An Early Lead
You’d think Bolton would be a bit more aware of Sturridge’s abilities, having seen the forward scoring for their side last season. But the defense simply let Sturridge go unmarked -- perhaps a present for the help he gave them last year? To his credit, Sturridge’s goal celebration was nearly non-existent, a mark of respect for the club that helped him develop.
Bolton continue to linger at the bottom of the table, their only points coming from a 4-0 thrashing over QPR in the first match of the season. This start certainly doesn’t bode well for Owen Coyle’s men.
