The 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs kick off on Wednesday night with the first of two Wild Card matches. FC Dallas was in a top-three position in the Western Conference for most of the year, but Schellas Hyndman opted to play his backups on the final day of the season to rest his starters. His backups lost, Real Salt Lake moved up into third in the west, and Dallas now has to play New York Red Bulls to get into the quarterfinals.
