Since suffering a season-ending ACL injury during a U.S. Open Cup play-in match back in April, Branko Boskovic has been pretty much an afterthought for DC United. After not playing another competitive the rest of 2011, he has been called up to the Montenegro national team for a Euro 2012 qualifier against the Czech Republic.
DC United’s Branko Boskovic Nearing Recovery, Called Up By Montenegro
We may not have seen the last of Branko Boskovic in a United uniform after all.

The call-up is essentially the first sign of life for the Designated Player, who was in the midst of his best game ever for United when he suffered that injury. On the whole, Boskovic’s time in MLS has been a rather large disappointment. He made almost no impact in his first half-season and had been relegated to the bench at the start of 2011. In that Open Cup play-in match, though, he had just scored a pair of second-half goals.
At the time, it was largely believed that Boskovic’s MLS career could be over. His contract only runs out in the summer of 2012, and it’s not hard to see United just cutting bait after receiving so little on their investment. But if Boskovic can shine for Montenegro, maybe he can work his way back into the crowded midfield rotation.
