South America’s second biggest continental competition is down eight teams, as the 2011 Copa Sudamericana resumes on Tuesday with the quarterfinals. For the first time in the competition’s history, teams from seven different countries have qualified for this round of the tournament. Only Argentina has two representatives, with Velez Sarsfield and Arsenal de Sarandi making it through to this stage.

The first and second seeds are the clear favorites to win, though this is never an indication of anything in South American continental competition. First seeded Velez are champions of Argentina and semifinalists in the most recent Copa Libertadores, while Universidad de Chile are undefeated in both this competition and domestically in Chile.
These ties are all home and away series, decided by aggregate goals. The away goals tiebreaker is in effect. All games are available on FOX Deportes in the United States.
