Following his criticism of referee Chris Foy after Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers on October 23, the English FA has charged Andre Villas-Boas with improper conduct. Villas-Boas was heavily critical of Foy in his post-match press conference and admitted that he had been aggressive towards Foy on the field. Foy showed straight red cards to two Chelsea players in the match, in addition to granting the penalty kick that gave QPR the game-winning goal.

Chelsea FC manager Andre Villas-Boas has been charged with improper conduct by The FA after his criticism of referee Chris Foy following his team’s 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers.
Villas-Boas claimed that the referee was heavily influenced by the QPR home crowd at Loftus Road and that he did not treat both teams the same way while officiating.
“The ref was poor, very, very poor. And it reflected in the result. I spoke to him at the end and I was very aggressive to him. I don’t care if he’s OK or not. Everyone can have a bad day, but this was not a bad day for us. It was a good day for us and a bad day for the referee. A couple of decisions are right, yellow cards for sure, but I think he lost it before and was card happy towards the team. I’m not happy with the difference of treatment. I don’t think the same treatment was applied...Apart from the fourth official, the other three were led by the emotions of the crowd and couldn’t deal with a game like this.”
The FA issued the following statement regarding the charge against Villas-Boas.
“Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas has been charged with improper conduct by the FA, following media comments he made about the match official after his side’s match at Queens Park Rangers on 23 October 2011. Villas-Boas has until 4pm on 15 November 2011 to respond to the charge.”
The charge could potentially result in a fine and/or touchline ban, depending on whether or not Villas-Boas decides to appeal and what the FA determines the severity of the incident was.
