Chivas Guadalajara and Cruz Azul did enough last week to give themselves a chance to advance, but both sides are on the ropes after the first legs of the 2011 Apertura Liguilla quarterfinals. Queretaro recorded a 2-1 home win over the Goats last week, while Fausto Pinto’s red card turned what should have been a road win into a 2-1 loss for La Machina. Both sides only need to win by one at home to go through and will be favored to do so, but the results from last week should create some serious drama.
Mexican Primera, 2011 Apertura Liguilla: Big Sides On The Ropes In Quarterfinals
The Mexican Primera’s 2011 Apertura Liguilla playoffs resume on Saturday with the second legs of the quarterfinal ties

In the other ties, which resume Sunday, the favorites are in great position to progress. Santos Laguna got a 2-2 draw away to Jaguares Chiapas and just need a draw at home in Torreon to go through. UANL Tigres has the top defense in the league, and they lived up to their record in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie, as they shut out Pachuca at home in a 1-0 win.
Though there are clear favorites in every tie, the teams are separated by one goal or less in all four of them, so literally anything can happen this weekend. The tiebreaker is seed, not away goals in the first round of the Liguilla playoffs, so these ties cannot go to extra time. Every game is available on American television.
