Early on Sunday morning, the Football Association of Wales announced that the manager of the Welsh national football team, Gary Speed, was found dead at his home at the age of 42. Both The Telegraph and journalists from The Times are reporting that Speed’s death was a suicide by hanging.

Speed was named manager of a struggling Wales side in December of 2010 and had turned around a young side in the last year, winning five of his games in charge.
Speed won 85 international caps for Wales during his playing career, the most ever by a Welsh outfield player. During his playing career, he enjoyed stints at Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United, playing 669 league matches and scoring 103 goals in his career. His 530 Premier League appearances were a record until he was passed by David James in 2009. He played in over 900 total professional matches.
