Velez Sarsfield Vs. LDU Quito, 2011 Copa Sudamericana Semifinals: Ecuadorian Champions Win 3-0 On Aggregate

Coming into their Copa Sudamericana semifinal, second leg match against LDU Quito, Velez Sarsfield were serious underdogs and facing a major uphill climb. The Ecuadorian champions had recorded a 2-0 win at home as Hernan Barcos scored twice and the Quito defense denied Velez an away goal. Velez pushed hard for a goal in the first half of the home leg, but came up short. When LDU Quito grabbed an away goal in the second half, the tie was all but over, and they went on to win 3-0 on aggregate.

LDU Quito did very little in the first half as Velez had all of the chances, but failed to score. In the 50th minute, the visitors would find a goal, and it was Barcos once again. Taking a ball down on his chest in the penalty area, Barcos turned and fired a shot into the back of the net from 12 yards out, sealing the tie for his side. He now has 25 goals on the season between the Ecuadorian Serie A and Copa Sudamericana.
