San Jose Earthquakes Acquire Marvin Chavez From FC Dallas

The San Jose Earthquakes picked up some midfield help on Friday, picking up Marvin Chavez in a trade with FC Dallas in exchange for allocation money. Chavez spent the last two and a half years with Dallas after signing there from Marathon. The 28-year-old Honduran international has 23 caps since debuting for his country in 2006 and is coming off of the best season of his career. He started 30 matches for Dallas in 2011, scoring six times and adding four assists.

“Marvin is a player who has shown well in our league,” said Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop. “He has a lot of pace, is a great dribbler of the ball and is a very versatile player. He should fit in nicely with our team.”

As is always the case with MLS allocation shenanigans, it's unclear how much allocation money went to Dallas for Chavez. That said, this appears to be a good move for the Quakes, who could sorely use help, especially in the midfield where they need go get more of an attacking threat to support Chris Wondolowski up front.
