Manchester City Vs. Arsenal, 2011 Premier League: City Wasting Chances To Put Game Away

Despite a couple of scares inflicted by Arsenal in the immediate aftermath of David Silva's opening goal, it's Manchester City who look far more likely to score right now at the Etihad Stadium. The visitors are being forced to attack, and with their defensive line reshuffled in light of Johan Djourou's injury early this half, they're looking far from convincing whenever City break forward.

Sergio Aguero has blistered a shot just wide of Wojciech Szczesny's right-hand post and then Samir Narsi somehow contrived to mess up a three-on-one when his centreing pass to Mario Balotelli ended up too far ahead of his teammate. City really should be up by more than just one goal here, and Robin van Persie nearly makes them pay only to see his low shot kept out by Joe Hart. Roberto Mancini is fuming on the touchline - the hosts can't afford to keep wasting chances.

And now Pablo Zabaleta's added to the close calls for Arsenal, although calling his 25-yard piledriver wasteful would be rather harsh. The right back does brilliantly to rob Aaron Ramsey and then lash in a shot that leaves Szczesny well beaten only for the ball to clatter off the upright. Six inches to the right and that's game over.
