Aaron Lennon Injures Hamstring, Out For Chelsea

Aaron Lennon could be out for weeks after injuring his hamstring on Sunday versus Sunderland

Tottenham Hotspur were dealt a blow before the half-hour mark on Sunday when they took on Sunderland, but it's one that goes well beyond just the one match as Aaron Lennon faces a lengthy layoff after injuring his hamstring. Spurs were able to win the match 1-0, but as big a concern is the status of Lennon, who left after 27 minutes with what appears to be a serious injury and after the match Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp spoke to how serious they injury could be.

“Lennon felt the hamstring tear – he’s got no chance for Thursday,” Redknapp said. “It’ll be weeks if it’s a tear.”

That Thursday match is against Chelsea, who Spurs are currently battling for the third spot in the Premier League. They will surely miss Lennon when they take on the Blues can he could still be out for a long stretch after Thursday. With the fixture congestion that comes with the holidays and the start of their FA Cup campaign, this is a poor time for Spurs to lose Lennon. That is especially true because Tottenham lack many like-for-like replacements on the wings so they will not just have to deal without Lennon, but they will have to alter their way of playing in his absence.
