CONCACAF Champions League, 2011-12: Toronto FC Will Host LA Galaxy At Rogers Centre

Toronto FC decided to move their match indoors rather than take their chance with March weather.

Toronto FC will host the LA Galaxy at Rogers Centre for their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal on March 8. Toronto FC normally plays their home games at BMO Field, but the game was moved indoors mainly as an effort to avoid having to play in the snow.

“A lot of thought went into selecting the home site for this very important match,” Toronto FC Senior Director of Business Operations Paul Beirne said in a team release. “While we would have loved to host our quarterfinal match at our home, BMO Field, ultimately the decision came down to our ability to deliver a safe and enjoyable event in a venue that could withstand the unpredictability of March’s weather conditions.”

Rogers Centre is the home of baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, but this will be the first MLS match to be played in the stadium once known as SkyDome. The game will be played with the dome closed and on artificial turf.
