Just hours after sacking Juan Carlos Garrido as manager, Villarreal have named Jose Fransisco Molina as their new manager. Instead of looking elsewhere for a replacement to kick-start the struggling Yellow Submarine, the board have opted to promote from within. The 41-year-old Molina is a former Spanish international goalkeeper who retired from football in 2007. He played 18 years in Spanish football. The club announced the appointment via their official twitter feed.
Villarreal Hire B Team Coach Jose Fransisco Molina As Manager
Molina joined Villarreal as a coach in 2009, when he took over Villarreal C. In May, with Villarreal B threatened by relegation, he was promoted and did just enough to keep them in the Segunda. They're just barely above the drop zone in this season's Segunda, but as a reserve team and not a proper independent club, that's not a terrible thing. Barcelona B are the only other reserve team in the Segunda, and they are currently in 14th.
If Villarreal is hiring a young manager from within with such a short management history, they must either be extremely confident that he’s a star in the making ... or extremely cheap. He’ll get a chance to prove that the former, not the latter is the reason for his hiring when Villarreal returns to the pitch in January.
