Wolverhampton Wanderers don’t exactly look up to doing to Arsenal what they did to Manchester United last week. It’s only taken 16 minutes for the Gunners to take the lead, and they did so on an absolutely brilliant goal by Robin Van Persie. Unfortunately, this morning’s Wayne Rooney goal kind of changed our expectations of what awesome is, but any other week, this would be goal of the week potential. It was at least an eight out of ten for RvP.
Arsenal Vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers: Robin Van Persie Gives Gunners Lead Over Wolves
Much to the surprise of absolutely no one, Cesc Fabregas was the man who provided the assist. Drifting out a bit to the right, Fabregas sent a cross into the center of the penalty area from a deep position on the flank. Van Persie cut through the Wolves defense like a hot knife through butter and got onto the ball at the perfect time. He jumped and hit a sideways volley with his right foot, smoking the ball into the back of the net at the far post. The Gunners have a deserved lead, and it would be stunning to see them relinquish it.
