Another day, another questionable red card in La Primera. This week, Oscar Razo of Jaguares de Chiapas is the victim, meaning his team will have to play the remainder of their match against Monterrey with ten men. That was already going to be a very difficult task, but Jaguares have made it even harder on themselves by giving away a penalty just one minute after play resumed, in a completely separate incident. Unlike the red card, there was absolutely no question about the penalty. José Ruiz Nataren hauled down Aldo de Nigris in the box, resulting in a yellow card and a penalty kick, which was converted by Humberto Suazo.
Jaguares De Chiapas Vs. Monterrey: Oscar Razo Red Card, Humberto Suazo Penalty Finishes Off Game
Oscar Razo’s sending off occurred when he put a high boot into the midsection of Osvaldo Martinez. While his foot certainly did make contact with Martinez, it certainly was not intentional or dangerous. Razo made a genuine attempt for the ball, did not jump into the challenge, and did not do anything to put Martinez’s safety in jeopardy. The red card was very harsh, for those reasons, but the penalty that was given away was going to make life extremely hard on Jaguares and had little to do with them having ten men. In any event, Chupete converted the penalty, Razo is off, and Jaguares have a long, difficult road to a decent result.
