Sal Zizzo Traded To Portland Timbers From Chivas USA
That seems like a significant fall for a player who left UCLA after his sophomore year to sign a three-year contract with Bundesliga side Hannover 96. During parts of two seasons there, the attacking midfielder had only made eight senior team appearances. An ACL tear in 2009 helped pave the way for his return to MLS. Chivas USA picked him up in a weighted lottery, and he made 10 appearances last season, registering one assist.
Prior to going pro, Zizzo was a standout for the U-18 and U-20 U.S. national teams. He helped lead the U-20 team to the World Cup quarterfinals in 2007. He was impressive enough to earn him his first senior team cap the same year. The Timbers are hoping Zizzo can regain that form.
