From out of the FA Cup, to penalties, to through to the next round in a matter of minutes, Everton’s fans are jumping for joy after their long and hard-fought FA Cup fourth round replay victory over Chelsea. Frank Lampard’s goal in the 104th minute of play appeared to have won the game for the Blues, but Leighton Baines answered in the 119th minute, no more than 75 seconds from the final whistle, with a fantastic free kick, curled into the top right corner of the net with his fantastic left foot.

The penalties were a predictably heart-stopping affair. Frank Lampard made the first penalty of the shootout while Leighton Baines missed Everton’s first penalty, opening the door for Chelsea. Didier Drogba and Phil Jagielka converted the next two before Tim Howard made a great save on Nicolas Anelka, bringing Everton back into the shootout. Mikel Arteta, Michael Essien, and John Heitinga would convert the next three spot kicks before Ashley Cole stepped up and skied his effort over the crossbar, giving Everton the advantage. Everton captain Phil Jagielka stepped up and scored his penalty, giving Everton the 4-3 win on penalties. The Toffees will host Reading at home in the FA Cup Fifth Round.
