A late first-half strike from Mladen Petric set Hamburg SV on the path to victory over Werder Bremen in the season’s second Nordderby; the visitors had won a gripping match at the Weserstadion back in September but were torn apart by HSV today as Armin Veh’s side ran out 4-0 winners. The hosts were far more threatening going forward and recorded their fourth clean sheet of 2011. Any chance Bremen thought they had in the second half was extinguished twenty minutes after the break as Paolo Guerro doubled Hamburg’s advantage. Guerrero added another in with just over ten minutes to go and Änis Ben-Hatira completed the rout with a fourth on eighty-seven minutes.
Hamburg SV Romp To Nordderby Win, SC Freiburg Come From Behind Against VfL Wolfsburg
VfL Wolfsburg took the lead inside of a half-hour against SC Freiburg as Patrick Helmes scored his first goal for the club, but the home side were level before half-time through Stefan Reisinger. Papiss Cissé got on the score-sheet after three games without a goal, and Freiburg weathered some late pressure to pick up a win that moves them level on points with Mainz 05 in fifth place.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund bounced back after a pair of draws with a 2-0 home win against St. Pauli, Hannover 96 moved up into third place with a 3-0 victory against FC Kaiserslautern that included a brace from Jan Schlaudraff, and FC Cologne came from behind to draw 1-1 with Hoffenheim.
