What a way to lose a Cup Final that would be. Obafemi Martins has put Birmingham City 2-1 ahead with just seconds to go after Arsenal collapse at the back. Laurent Koscielny and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny both went after the same loose ball and took each other out, leaving the ball on the six yard line for the Nigerian striker to pounce, rolling easily into the open goal and sparking absolute bedlam in Wembley Stadium. It was possibly the easiest goal of Martins' career, but it may be the most important one he's scored in English football - the cartwheeling celebration shows he knows it too.
Arsenal Vs. Birmingham City, Carling Cup Final: Obafemi Martins Scores Near-Certain Winner
What an absolute calamity that was from Szczęsny and Koscielny though. That would be an embarrassing goal to concede at the best of times, but with the game level in the 90th minute of a Carling Cup final? Arsenal’s trophy curse is a spectacularly strong one. Oh, and then there’s karma:
Is it a plane? Is it an aeroplane? No, its just ashley throwing chelsea out of the fa cup :)
