AC Milan Vs. Napoli: 3-0 Full Time, Entire Azzurri Squad Has A Shocker

Tonight at the San Siro, Napoli had the power to make Serie A the most interesting league in Europe. They failed in this regard and put in a miserable performance, falling 3-0 to AC Milan in what was almost certainly their worst performance of the season. Although, the headline needs a minor clarification: Morgan De Sanctis, Napoli’s goalkeeper, was brilliant. Every single other player who wore the Azzurri today was terrible. Fitting, since De Sanctis was the only guy on the team not wearing a light blue shirt.

The first half of the match is not worth recapping in any way in this space, since it didn’t actually constitute what most people refer to as “football.” Both teams were incredibly poor and both teams struggled to string passes together. There probably wasn’t a single 10 pass move, and it would be shocking to learn that Napoli put five passes together consecutively at any point in the first half.

Milan started out the second half with a bang, crowding the Napoli penalty area and eventually drawing a penalty kick off of a handball, which was converted by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The match then had a bit of a long lull before Pato sprung to life, assisting on Kevin-Prince Boateng’s 77th minute goal and scoring a 79th minute goal of his own. Both goals came on the counter-attack, when Napoli was sending a large number of bodies forward.

This match just maintains the status quo for Milan, who still have to worry about the threat that Inter Milan pose five points behind them, but despite sitting just one point behind Inter, this match could mean the end of a Scudetto chase for Napoli.
