Monterrey’s goal looked like it had been coming for sometime, and in the 27th minute, Rayados forward Aldo de Nigris finally delivered to give his side a 1-0 lead over Pachuca. In a match between two under-achieving teams loaded with talent, something had to give. Apparently, Monterrey have recovered from their defeat against UNAM Pumas better than Pachuca have recovered from getting blown out by Cruz Azul.
Monterrey Vs. Pachuca: Aldo De Nigris Gives Rayados Lead
The goal came off of a nice move by Monterrey, ending with Neri Cardozo lobbing a ball up in the air to the center of the box. Aldo de Nigris beat his man to the ball in the air and headed it into the back of the net, giving the Rayados a well deserved 1-0 lead.
It was always going to be hard for Pachuca to get an away result in this match, despite Monterrey’s poor form, but they will be even more hard pressed to get a result now that Monterrey have a lead. If Monterrey want to play keepaway, they’re very good at it, and they’re a team that often grows in confidence significantly after finding a goal and getting the monkey off their back.
